When is the best time to schedule my newborn session?
So glad you asked! You probably heard that the ideal time frame for your newborn session is somewhere in those first two weeks of birth. Some first time parents are shocked when they hear this. This is one of the most common questions I get asked at least a few times each week. What I'd love to do in this article is explain why those first few days matter so much.
The ideal time to photograph your baby is between the first 6-12 days of birth. During those first 2 weeks, your baby will sleep most of the day and it will be much easier to pose them into all the cute little props. After the 2 week mark, your baby tends to be more aware of their surroundings and more sensitive to touch and noise.
The baby's age can sometimes make a difference in what type of poses you are able to achieve during the newborn session and whether they will like it or not. Sure, all babies react differently, some newborn sessions can be done very quickly and baby sleeps through it all, others may take a bit more time and baby needs a few feeding/soothing breaks. Generally speaking, the age of the baby can dictate how the session will run.
There are always exceptions - some babies might need a bit more time in the hospital or NICU and that's totally fine. We always listen to your story very carefully and baby's safety is our number one priority!
I encourage all mom's to book their newborn session a few months in advance to ensure that we have enough time to plan and design your session. We love to customize each session so that it can represent you and your family!
